Breathing new life into one of Edinburgh’s most iconic landmarks. City & Country and Cala Homes needed an umbrella brand and marketing concept for their joint development of Donaldson’s College.

Background
As specialists in the renovation and development of some of the UK’s finest historic buildings, City & Country were granted the privilege of turning this Grade I listed Jacobean mansion into a collection of stunning apartments. Facing the college, Cala Homes are creating a bold, contemporary crescent – providing a breathtaking fusion of old and new within this UNESCO World Heritage Site location.

Concept
As custodians of the Donaldson’s legacy, we were tasked to preserve and care for it by creating a new destination brand that was respectful of its heritage whilst also looking to the future. We worked with the joint team to create a subtle, understated identity which would allow the individual characteristics of the two developments to co-exist. We drew upon the values and rich heritage inherent within the site and used this as the foundation for creating a suite of marketing tools for the first phase of the scheme.

The scheme has been described as, “unlike any other development in Scotland” and both City & Country and Cala Homes experienced extremely high levels of demand and interest, way in advance of the official on-site launch.
